grad cakes compressed

By Pamela Fagan Hutchins

Tick by tick, our ADHD/Aspie teenage-son “Clark Kent” checked off the hurdles between him and high school graduation/Texas A&M in the last two weeks of school. We breathed a sigh of relief when he announced he had passed his online classes and solved his attendance issues. Then, three days before his graduation, as his older sister Marie made graduation cakes for Clark and his girlfriend, I got a call from his counselor.

“I hate to tell you this, but it appears Clark will fail English and not graduate on Sunday,” she said.

This was an unexpected development. Well, let’s be honest here. No problem with Clark is totally unexpected. Bile rose in my throat. “Thank you,” I managed, at the end of our call. “I’ll talk to Clark.”

  1. Miracles still happen, every day! I feel like standing up and sing, “Amazing Grace” right about now!
